HOW DOES IT ALL WORK
dogdna.me uses one of the most sophisticated laboratory where over 4,600 SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) have been tested from positions across the whole canine autosomal genome from over 3,200 dogs. To further enhance the search, the best 1,536 genetic variations have been identified and ran against a supplementary 4,400 dogs from an extensive variety of breeds. This phase of analysis resulted in the assortment of the final panel of DNA markers that performed best at differentiating between breeds, ultimately generating the most accurate and reliable genetic database that currently covers over 200 different breeds.
Once your samples have been received and the Dog DNA have been extracted and analyzed, the outcomes for these markers are dispatched to a processor that assesses them using a sequencer programmed to reflect all of the pedigree trees that are likely in the last three generations.
The trees studied comprise of a simple pedigree with a single breed (a likely pure-bred dog), two different breeds at the parental level (a first-generation cross), continuing all the way up to a compound tree with eight different great-grandparent breeds permitted.
The laboratory computer uses intelligence from our large database of breeds to fill these prospective pedigrees. For each of the millions of permutations of ancestry trees developed and studied, the computer will assign each a score that represents how well that designated permutation of breeds corresponded to your dog’s data. The pedigree with the global best score will be the one which is selected and delivered to you in your dog’s customized report. It generally takes up to 3-4 weeks from the time your samples are received for the Dog DNA genetic tests and analysis to be accomplished.
